The holiday season can be an incredibly joyful time, filled with laughter, love, and quality family time. However, for mums, it often means juggling countless responsibilities while still finding time for themselves.

This Christmas, I want to remind all the incredible mums out there about the importance of self-care, even with children around. Here are five practical tips for mums to help you prioritise self-care during this festive season:

1. Set boundaries and communicate with your family:

- Clearly communicate your expectations and needs. Let your family know that you also require time for self-care and that it's essential for your overall well-being.

- Establish boundaries with your children, explaining that certain times are for you to relax and rejuvenate. Encourage them to respect your personal space during these moments.

2. Prioritize and plan in advance:

- Identify the most critical aspects of your self-care routine and prioritize them accordingly. Whether it's exercise, reading, or meditation, reserve specific time slots for these activities.

- Plan ahead and enlist the help of your spouse, partner, or family members (or my go to the TV) to ensure uninterrupted self-care time.

3. Create a kid-friendly self-care routine:

- Introduce your children to simple self-care practices, such as creating crafts, building a fort, or listening to calming music. Encourage them to join you in activities that allow you to engage in self-care while keeping them entertained.

4. Embrace the power of delegation:

- Don't be afraid to delegate tasks to other family members, such as cooking, cleaning, or gift-wrapping. Remember, you don't have to do it all by yourself.

- Take advantage of online shopping and delivery services to save time and energy, allowing you to focus on your personal well-being.

5. Emphasize quality family time:

- Find a balance that works for you and your family. Dedicate specific hours or days purely to the enjoyment of time spent together.

- Organize activities that promote well-being and self-care for the whole family, such as nature walks, movie nights, or even a family yoga session.

As mothers, we often put the needs of our family before our own. However, it's crucial to remember that taking care of ourselves enables us to be present, patient, and loving caregivers. This Christmas, make a commitment to prioritize self-care. By setting boundaries, planning ahead, involving your children, delegating tasks, and emphasising quality family time, you can strike a healthy balance between festive responsibilities and your own well-being. Cheers to a joyous and self-care-filled holiday season!
